A story from a MMIAF reader:

I recently explained to my mom what “Yes on 8″ meant since there are a lot of signs in our neighborhood. We also just had two gay weddings in the family. On Thursday, at our neighborhood meeting, a woman running for a Senate seat in our district asked if we wanted a “Yes on 8″ sign for our lawn. I respectfully turned it down, but then my mom laughed and said loudly, “We cannot take! Our family has the gay!”

Wow, this sounds like my mother when I came out. When we would go shopping together, she would point at a guy and say quietly, “Is he the gay too?”

  • Sippy

    your mommya ROCKS! XD
if i could vote in the state of california, i'd definitely vote NO on 8!!!!!!!!

*hahahah* That's hilarious and awesome. It TOTALLY gives me the inclination to make a t-shirt for myself:

    “I Have The Gay!”

I was just at my first gay wedding this weekend, one of the grooms is asian. His dad gave this beautiful speech about how he dealt with his own ego and accepted his son as “a gay”. :) People were thanking him for the speech all night and he finally turned and asked his son, don't all parents love their children no matter what?

  • kako

    Sadly, apparently not.

  • some white guy

Give your mom a hug for me.

  • Jort

I can see the meme-potential on this.

I have 5 sisters, 2 are gay. Only 1 has come out to our parents. I want a T-shirt that says “we have the gay”. I'm proud that my sister can let herself be who she his, but sad that the other is afraid of it. I am straight (kind of sure),but who should care who we love, as long as we love them? I wish I had the money to fight the Mormons to defeat them.

=) this post made me soo proud. im not gay, but strongly no on 8. =) im at school away from home and a permanent mail-in voter. my dad sent me my ballot with a coffee mug stain on it. AND, he took the pleasure of putting post-it's next to each proposition with a “yes” or “no” telling me which way to vote. =) i was very happy to find a “no” next to 8. haha.

  • ky

your mom is the cutest thing EVER! i laughed so hard! wish i could get my mom to say something like that and not be in support of prop 8!

Unfortunately in Korea, you can choose to be miserable and that's about it :-/ Not gay myself but had two lesbian roommates who were dating. Ironically, I found myself spending more time in the kitchen than they did, while they watched football and other sports games on TV. O_o And my mom has DEFINITELY asked me if I've turned gay by having so many gay people in my life (3 people, total). I had to explain it doesn't work like that. She told me to go to med school if I know so much. *facepalm*
