My little cousin is a 2nd grader, is full Chinese, and his name is KADAR! In this time and age, having an Arabic name is not easy, let alone being 7 y.o. with that name. My stupid uncle wanted his son to have a name starting with the letter “K' like his does. The genius that he is, he asks the hospital interpreter to find a name in the K boy's section of the baby name book. Apparently said interpreter selected Kadar as it was the first name and sounded good. Interpreter told my uncle that Kadar means strong and powerful.

I asked a friend who minored in Arabic if that was true. She said yes, but that it also means “dirty” and the color “green” depending on how the word is spelled in Arabic.

  • RocioR

There's no L in the Japanese alphabet, but the R sounds pretty close to L so the name Risa = Lisa. My friend's name is Risa too, but she just goes by Lisa

  • Anne

Mine's not as bad as these lol. So funny. My parents thought the letter “e” made a double “e” sound so they named me Anne. Instead of Annie. Then they got really confused why people kept calling me Ann. Then someone explained it to them. They don't like my name now.

  • I'M NOT A MARSHMALLOW!

My mother–who's Irish Catholic–once told me that she was going to name me Lourdes. It probably would've gone nicely with my very Spanish last name. Unfortunately, she told me wasn't thinking straight after my sister and I were born, which was probably why my sister's named after a car and I somehow managed to get an Italian first name…which rhymes with “Marshmallow.” Guess what people call me when I introduce myself properly?

Reebok ZigTech Shoes, like any new sneaker design/tech, are accompanied by a glowing press release that's chock full of questionable locker-room science and athlete endorsements. I know that. I understand Zig Pulse Shoes. I know that these are just Mens ZigTech Shoes, that they're not going to improve my endurance (which, in my case, could consist of "the absense of embarrassment"). I know that my year-old pair of zig pulse women are in perfectly fine condition, thanks to my structured regiment of not exercising, ever, no matter what, and therefore I do not need a new pair of Reebok Easytone Trainers. I know that these sneakers cost $100 and will sit, next to the similarly-unused New Reebok Easytone Shoes, in my closet, and that I should very simply not buy them.Easytone Shoes new ZigTech sneakers are billed as an "energy drink for your feet," which is completely ridiculous, but sort of makes sense since both are an unnatural shade of chartreuse. Lookinng for a great all-around athletic shoe that gives you an extra boost to your workout? Check out Reebok Easy Tone Shoes for an amazing concept that puts more spring in your walk– almost literally. If you are familiar with Bosu, it's a similar techology that forces you to engage balance and core muscles and it works while you walk. The the Cheap Zigtech Shoes is not a shoe for the gym- it's a general walkinng shoe. This shoe features balance pods built into the basic design of the shoe to create what Reebok EasyTone calls a "natural instability" which means your body has to adjust with every step (and every muscle group) to move forward. Much like walking on uneven ground or sand, it works those legs to get them sleek and sexy. Reebok EasyTone Inspire is the first major shoe manufacturer to get into the working Discount Reebok EasyTone– meaning that it works your legs while you walk: toning and triming glutes, hamstrings, calves and more while you walk. These Reebok ZigTech are ventilated and have a sleek aerodynamic look and come in a small collection of colors.

What do you call a one legged Jewish girl? Eileen

And a one legged Japanese girl? Irene.

  • Fnbored

Risa is actually a common Japanese female name and that is the correct Romanization.

  • Fnbored

Are you JP? It’s actually a popular female name in Japan.

  • Alice

so my uncle and aunt had baby boy recently and named him “arthur” – the spelling is fine, but no one can actually pronounce it correctly. it sounds more like “AW-SIR”. why would you choose a name that no one in your (chinese) lineage can pronounce? hahhaa.

also funny but unrelated, their older son, now 6, was slow at speaking so they decided to foster whichever language he learned first, which turned out to be english instead of chinese…thus, they’ve pretty much been teaching him bad english by speaking it at home. the poor boy was born in america, can’t speak chinese, but is now in ESL (english as a second language) class at school.

  • Kristine

my cousin named their baby son tucker. all my aunts and uncles call him “taco”. poor kid.

  • Julie

I was supposed to be Judy, after the next door neighbor, Doctors couldn’t understand my mom. So Julie it is.

  • Bigbinh

My cousin had a friend named Female (pronounced like tamale). I commented to the friend that she had a unique name when we were introduced. She rolled her tongue when pronouncing her name “Femaalllay”. I asked, “How do you spell your name?” That’s when she laughed and told me that her parents couldn’t speak english when she was born. When the nurse asked them to sign the babie’s name…. they thought she was asking what sex the baby was. They knew the word female from a sign on the women’s restroom. So they wrote in female. Her parents laughed after they found out what happened, but ended up liking the name. “So she’s Female and she’s a female.”

  • Kam

I’m lucky it was only my middle name and that it wasn’t that bad. Aaren, as opposed to the original intent as Ahren, with my only regret being that it sounds much prettier. My middle name is going to become something of a college graduation gift.

    Mom: yes, I know NO-gan!
Me: say LO, LO, LO, LO!
    Mom: NO, NO, NO, NO
Me: curl your tongue like this & say La to practice
    Mom: LA!
    Me: ok, now say LO
    Mom: LO
Me: k, just keep doing that

In a non-fob story, when I was studying abroad in France my friend’s French host-dad found all of our our American names too difficult to pronounce so he decided to call everyone “Paul” because it was simpler.

  • Jdkim0818

My parents never gave me an English name when we moved to the States as a kid, so they gave me a phonetic spelling of my Korean name, Jeong Do. Not only is the spelling impossible for foreigners to pronounce, it sounded awfully similar to John Doe. I’ve been called John Doe many a times during my lifetime… Eventually when I got naturalized I permanently changed it to two initials: JD

    -JD
