yeah a lot of people in asia pronounce it “sky-pee”. can't remember which is the correct way, though i think they have a page up about it on their site, haha.

For the longest time I thought it was pronounced sky-pee, thanks to my parents. That ended when all my friends laughed at me.

HAHAHA THAT'S WHAT MY DAD CALLS IT TOO, and I thought that it was actually called Sky-pee when he first began using it back like 2 years ago when it hadn't even reached the Oprah show and stuff.

Mine too! There must be a reason for all this consistency… Maybe the need to pronounce every letter? My mom also called Louis Vuitton “Loo-EES voo-TOON” (I followed her example until I was about 19 *sigh*)

My dad says “Sky-pee” too and he told me once it's b/c that's how it's pronounced in Taiwan/China. Has anyone else heard this from their parents?

it's okay for us to make fun of our own parents or relatives because no matter where we live or what our background is, we can all relate to each other's stories posted on these sites.

Does is really matter how Skype is pronounced? It's not even a “real word”!

It may be okay to joke around with your family members, but it's not cool when you start typing condescending responses regarding your parents' English on the website. Think about the trouble they went through to provide you with a better life abroad. English obviously is not their native langauge.
